The primary purpose of writing this report is to review the case of 2 patients to explore the role of kidney biopsy in the diagnosis of preeclampsia in kidney transplant patients. Both of the patients had developed proteinuria in pregnancy after kidney transplant. An in-depth analysis and evaluation were necessary to highlight the importance of maintaining a broad differential and the diagnostic utility of kidney biopsy in this clinical scenario.
The review was based on a multiple case study model that included the case of two women. Two patients with kidney transplants who presented with proteinuria in pregnancy are described, and the literature is reviewed.
In both of the presented cases, a kidney biopsy allowed for prompt diagnosis and treatment. Therefore it was a useful method for evaluation and assessment.
The study concluded that kidney biopsy should be considered an essential diagnostic tool in this clinical scenario. More studies are required with larger sample size and utilizing other research methods to explore kidney biopsy’s role in diagnosing preeclampsia in kidney transplant patients.
