Less than half of HIV-infected patients with new-onset seizures appear to be actively engaged in care, according to published research. Investigators found that nearly 40% of patients who were aware of their HIV-positive status had disengaged from care. Significant functional impairment was evident in 44% of these patients. Cerebrospinal fluid was not obtained in 40% of the study group. Among those for whom mortality outcomes were available, 22% died during hospitalization.
