Following the release of professional guidance from the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists in 2002 on routine preoperative testing, the incidence of routine electrocardiogram testing appears to have decreased, according to a study. However, no statistically significant overall changes were observed in the use of plain radiography, hematocrit tests, urinalysis, or cardiac stress testing.
