Study results suggest that the number of lymph nodes removed during gastrectomy for adenocarcinoma appears to have prognostic implications for long-term survival. Among patients with stage IA to IIA disease, the 10-year survival rate was 74% for those with 16 or more nodes removed, compared with a rate of 57% for those with seven to 15 nodes removed.
