This book begins with an introduction of pathophysiology and screening, followed by sections on upper gastrointestinal, biliary, and pancreatic problems diagnosis and therapy. GERD is the most common upper gastrointestinal condition, affecting women of all ages and posing a therapeutic challenge in pregnant women. The most prevalent biliary problem is gallstone disease. The therapy of gallstone disease in pregnancy, as well as chronic pancreatitis in pregnancy, is reviewed using a case-based methodology.
Some of these illnesses can be addressed by obstetricians–gynecologists; however, many of them need extra testing and therapy in collaboration with a gastroenterologist.
