The following is a summary of “Breast Autologous Fat Transfer Entirely Under Tumescent Anesthesia: Safety and Efficacy” published in the December 2022 issue of Dermatologic Surgery by Salmon et al.

While the patient is under the influence of general anesthesia, the prior use of external expansion has been described as a tool enabling reliable grafting of more than 200 mLs of the patient’s own autologous fat. This description was found in the medical literature. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not a procedure known as breast autologous fat transfer entirely under tumescent anesthesia (BAFTEUTA) is a  effective and risk-free.

After receiving permission from the institution’s advisory board, 22 patients were enrolled in this single-cohort prospective trial in the order in which they were received. Before their respective surgeries, each patient underwent preoperative expansion, which consisted of domes being manually deflated. The patient was given oral sedation in addition to being given tumescent anesthesia for all of the procedures that were performed.

The amount of successful graft that was most commonly performed was 200 milliliters. The only complication that occurred was obstructive folliculitis, and its severity was rated as being minimal. BAFTEUTA is a risk-free procedure that carries the possibility of favorable results along with high levels of gratification for the patient. BAFTEUTA is still a procedure, despite the fact that the author has not reported a graft volume that is nearly as large as the volumes that some other authors have reported.
