A moderately accelerated personalized backup pacing rate is beneficial in HFpEF, according to a study published in JAMA Cardiology. Margaret Infeld, MD, and colleagues analyzed an accelerated personalized backup heart rate compared with 60 bpm (usual care). The median pacemaker-detected heart rates were 75 and 65 bpm in the accelerated pacing and usual care arms, respectively. Improvement in the Minnesota Living with HF Questionnaire scores, NT-proBNP levels, activity levels, and device-detected AF were seen in the accelerated pacing group.
