Visinin-like protein-1 (VILIP-1) and VILIP-1/ Aβ42—potential cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers of neuronal injury—appear to predict the rate of global cognitive decline similarly to tau and tau/Aβ42, markers long known to be involved in Alzheimer’s disease, according to findings from a small study. The authors suggested that VILIP-1 and VILIP-1/Aβ42 may be useful CSF surrogates for neurodegeneration in early Alzheimer’s disease.
