The following is a summary of “Bone health management in endocrine-treated patients with prostate cancer: a summary of evidence,” published in the December 2024 issue of Urology by Chen et al.
Researchers conducted a retrospective study to assess reliable evidence on bone health management in patients with prostate cancer undergoing endocrine therapy.
They conducted a comprehensive literature search using the ‘6S’ evidence model across decision support systems, guideline networks, society websites, and databases. The search covered publications from April 2014 to April 2024, with 2 researchers independently evaluating the quality of the identified literature.
The results showed 12 articles, including 6 clinical guidelines, 5 expert consensus papers, and 1 systematic evaluation, providing 26 pieces of best evidence on risk assessment, prevention, and interventions for osteoporosis and fractures.
Investigators synthesized key evidence on bone health management in patients with prostate cancer undergoing endocrine therapy. The findings highlighted the need for healthcare professionals to apply this evidence in developing strategies to reduce osteoporosis and fracture risks.
