Researchers in Amsterdam have found that bone mineral content (BMC) and bone mineral density (BMD) at age 36 appear to be significantly associated with low back pain at age 42 among men who reported this pain within 12 months. The odds of low back pain were highest among men in the lowest quartiles for BMC (odds ratio [OR], 4.78) and BMD (OR, 3.48) values.
