A recent breakthrough in cancer research throws insight into the role of mitochondrial respiration in carcinogenesis since they effectively create ATP and oncogenic chemicals that promote cancer cell proliferation. COX7RP/COX7A2L/SCAF1, a mitochondrial supercomplex assembly stabilizing factor, is extensively expressed in clinical breast and endometrial malignancies, according to the findings. 

Furthermore, COX7RP overexpression is linked to a worse outcome in individuals with breast cancer. COX7RP overexpression stimulates in vitro and in vivo growth, stabilizes mitochondrial supercomplex assembly even in hypoxic situations, and increases hypoxia tolerance in breast and endometrial cancer cells. COX7RP overexpression alters the metabolic profile of cancer cells, namely the steady-state levels of tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates, according to metabolomic investigations. 

 

Notably, silencing each component of the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex inhibits COX7RP-stimulated cancer cell proliferation. COX7RP is a growth-regulatory factor for breast and endometrial cancer cells, controlling metabolic pathways and energy generation, according to findings.
