Cognitive functioning appears to decline substantially after older patients are hospitalizations, according to Rush University Medical Center investigators. More severe illness, longer hospital stay, and older age were each associated with quicker post-hospitalization cognitive decline. However, none of these factors negated the effect of hospitalization.
