This study states that Duplex ultrasound (DUS) is highly sensitive for evaluating femoral and popliteal segments; however, evaluation of the tibial vessels has not been well studied. Our aim was to correlate the accuracy of DUS compared with angiography of the infrapopliteal segments.
This was a retrospective study from August 2019 to January 2020 analyzing anterior and posterior tibial and peroneal arteries in patients who received a DUS examination followed by conventional angiography within a 30-day period. All segments were graded as normal, severe disease, or occluded on the basis of DUS compared with percentage stenosis or occlusion on angiograms. Studies were evaluated by an Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation-accredited surgeon.
Data were described using frequencies and percentages for categorical variables and means and standard deviations for quantitative variables. Comparisons between DUS and angiography for each segment were made using Bowker test for symmetry.
