Findings from the National Health Interview Survey indicate that the absolute difference in mortality rates between adults with and without diabetes dropped between 1997 and 2006. The authors noted that the all-cause mortality rate decreased by 23% during the study period; the excess all-cause mortality rate decreased by 44%. The cardiovascular disease (CVD) death rate dropped by 40%, and the excess CVD death rate dropped by 60%.
