HF-related mortality in young adults increased from 2012-2019 in the US, according to a study published in JAMA Cardiology. Alanna A. Morris, MD, MSc, and colleagues assessed HFrelated mortality among adults aged 15-44 during 1999-2019. Overall age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMRs) for HF increased from 2.36 per 100,000 persons in 1999 to 3.16 in 2019. Men had higher AAMRs than women, and Black adults had the highest AAMRs (8.58 in 2019 vs 2.04 for Hispanic adults and 2.45 for White adults). Southern states were in the upper 90th percentile of HF-related mortality.
