MONDAY, March 25, 2019 (HealthDay News) — A mumps outbreak that began last month at Temple University in Philadelphia has reached 15 confirmed and 59 probable cases.

Forty-six cases were identified in the previous eight days, Mark Denys, director of student and employee health services, said last Thursday, CNN reported.

The university and local health department are working together to combat the outbreak of the contagious, vaccine-preventable disease. Anyone who has not received two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine and a booster should get vaccinated now, the university advised, CNN reported.

“One of the most important steps you can take if you experience symptoms is to self-isolate, avoid travel, and limit contact with others for five days from the onset of symptoms,” a university notification said.
