The RSV Infection, Intensity, and Impact Questionnaire (RSV-iiiQ) is a useful tool for assessing acute RSV symptom severity and impact among adults, according to findings published in Health and Quality of Life Outcomes. Valerie Williams, PhD, and colleagues conducted a web-based survey among 111 adults with RSV. The RSV-iiiQ scales exhibited adequate testretest reliability, construct validity, and discriminating ability. One-factor confirmatory factor analyses showed that each of the four scales was sufficiently unidimensional, while internal consistencies indicated that the computation of RSV-iiiQ scale scores was plausible. Further, correlation-based assessments supported the construct validity of RSV-iiiQ scores, and known group analyses supported discriminating ability. Estimates of responsiveness of the scale scores were also satisfactory. “The findings also indicated two items, runny nose and ear pain, may be unnecessary and should be revisited using item response theory analysis with a larger sample size,” Dr. Williams and colleagues wrote
