To present an update on the latest progress in the understanding of oral acne anaphylaxis pathways and functional treatment (OMA, pancake syndrome), is the purpose of this paper. This review highlights among other novel observations with respect to OMA increased prevalence of hypersensitive aspirin/NSAID in OMA patients, association of OMA with anaphylaxis caused by exercise, presentation of OMA simulation of acute asthma, occurrence of OMA in infancy, high severity and lethal potential of OMA, pollution of other foods such as oat and corn meal. OMA is a serious allergy disease, possibly fatal, and can be expected when signs start shortly after mite-contaminated foods have been taken in. Physician understanding of this clinical image is essential if a proper diagnosis is to be established and if preemptive steps are to be taken to help patients at risk to prevent it.
