Physician empathy appears to be significantly associated with clinical outcomes in patients with diabetes and should be considered an important part of clinical competence, according to a team of international researchers.
Patients of physicians with high empathy scores had significantly lower rates of acute metabolic complications than patients of physicians with moderate and low scores on empathy. Physician age and gender were not associated with acute metabolic complications.
