Having physicians conduct triage in the ED appears to lead to earlier evaluations, physicians orders, and disposition decisions when compared with non-physician triage. A 2-year before-and- after analysis found statistically significant, average time decreases in the following domains:
Disposition decision (6 minutes).
Physician evaluation (16 minutes).
Analgesia (70 minutes).
Antiemetic administration (66 minutes).
Antibiotic administration (36 minutes).
Radiology orders (16 minutes).
