To give an in-depth examination of the new da Vinci SP (single port) robotic surgery system. The published literature in urology to date, as well as a description of the new approach, will be discussed. There is no high-quality published research using the SP robotic system at the moment. All of the studies are case series, with several having ten or fewer participants. All investigations, however, have proven the SP system to be safe and practical for most urological operations.
In the hands of skilled robotic surgeons, renal and pelvic surgery utilizing the SP robotic system is both safe and practical. There is a scarcity of long-term, high-quality data. While the current high cost and learning curve may restrict the usage of SP systems in many health care systems, further upgrades and the availability of robotic surgical systems by other developers may help bring down costs and increase acceptance.
