For elderly hospitalized patients with HF, social frailty (SF) is associated with a composite outcome defined by all-cause death and cardiovascular events, according to a study published in Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine. Among 310 hospitalized patients with HF aged 65 and older, 61% had SF. During follow-up, 75 patients (24%) had composite events. Patients with SF had a significantly higher composite event rate, with SF independently associated with a higher composite event rate (adjusted HR, 2.01). Composite events were independently predicted by an answer of yes to a question about not feeling helpful toward friends or family (adjusted HR, 2.28).
