Among cisgender gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), there appears to have been a steep increase in the use of event-driven PrEP (ED-PrEP) use among all PrEP users, according to study results published in the Journal of the International Aids Society. Curtis Chan and colleagues assessed trends in PrEP dosing regimen by comparing daily PrEP use with ED-PrEP use among nearly 39,000 GBMSM. Between 2019 and 2023, overall PrEP use increased from 27.6% to 42.7% (OR, 1.16). During the same period, the proportion of 12,922 participants who reported PrEP use in the last 6 months increased from 7.6% to 27.8% (OR, 1.41), while those reporting daily PrEP use decreased from 92.4% to 63.3% (OR, 0.64). Daily PrEP users were more likely to have received at least three HIV tests in the last year when compared with ED-PrEP users.
