This study states that The Global Limb Anatomic Staging System (GLASS) was developed to aid with objective assessment of the atherosclerotic occlusive disease burden in limbs with chronic limb threatening ischemia (CLTI). 1 GLASS focuses on the anatomic details of the limb as a whole and is a needed update to the older TASC II (Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus Document on Management of Peripheral Arterial Disease) classification system. 2 Liang et al 3 present a large retrospective, single-center analysis of patient outcomes after open and endovascular treatment of CLTI when analyzed by GLASS. They leveraged the strength of a large single-center review in providing long-term granular clinical observations. Not surprisingly, the GLASS stage was significantly associated with a greater composite endpoint of reintervention, major amputation, and restenosis, primarily driven by reinterventions and restenosis. Of interest, no differences were found in amputation-free survival or overall survival.
