The ureter is a common cause of difficulties following kidney transplantation. As a result, ureteral problems must be avoided and managed as soon as possible. For a review, researchers wanted to describe contemporary research on the ureter in the context of kidney transplantation, with a particular emphasis on novel results. Over the previous 10 years, they searched PubMed and Medline for all new articles on ureteroneoimplantations, stents, and complications treatment in kidney transplant patients.
When compared to other procedures mentioned in the literature, the “Lich-Gregoir” approach for ureteroneocystostomy appears to be superior in terms of postoperative complications. Furthermore, ureteral stenting can help to minimize significant urologic problems.
The researchers described a novel method for the treatment of ureteral strictures in renal transplant recipients. They explored the use of a biostable polymer-coated ureteral stent to prevent tissue ingrowth into the lumen as a novel option for ureteral stricture therapy in the kidney transplant context.
