Thomson Reuters has released its 13th annual report identifying the nation’s best providers of cardiovascular service. Selected from more than 1,000 hospitals, those chosen have better risk-adjusted survival, lower complications, and fewer readmissions.
The top 50 hospitals distinguish themselves from the rest due to the fact that they:
had 23% fewer deaths.
had a 40% lower rate of heart failure complications.
maintained lower 30-day readmission rates for heart attack and heart failure.
spent an average of $4,000 less per bypass surgery case.
discharged bypass patients almost a full day sooner.
increased their use of internal mammary artery for CABG surgeries from 88% to 96%.
