Patients with COPD appear to be at increased risk of in-hospital and 30-day mortality following a diagnosis of venous thromboembolism (VTE), according to Massachusetts-based study. Among those diagnosed with VTE, in-hospital mortality rates were 6.8% for those with COPD and 4.0% for those without. Mortality within 30 days of a VTE diagnosis was 12.6% for those with COPD and 6.5% for those without the respiratory disease.
